Apple Pie Recipe
If you're looking for a classic and delicious dessert, look no further than apple pie. Here's how to make it from scratch!
Ingredients:
- 1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 8 cups sliced and peeled apples (about 8 medium apples)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it in a 9-inch (23cm) pie dish. Trim the edges and set aside.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add this mixture to the apples and stir until the apples are coated.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust. Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the apples. Trim the edges and use a fork to crimp the edges together. Cut a few slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the beaten egg over the top crust and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
- Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, cover them with strips of foil.
- Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
There you have it, a delicious homemade apple pie that's perfect for any occasion. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if you like.
