Apple Pie Recipe

If you're looking for a classic and delicious dessert, look no further than apple pie. Here's how to make it from scratch!

Ingredients:

  • 1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
  • 8 cups sliced and peeled apples (about 8 medium apples)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it in a 9-inch (23cm) pie dish. Trim the edges and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the lemon juice.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add this mixture to the apples and stir until the apples are coated.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust. Dot the top of the apples with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the apples. Trim the edges and use a fork to crimp the edges together. Cut a few slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the beaten egg over the top crust and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  8. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. If the edges of the crust start to brown too quickly, cover them with strips of foil.
  9. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

There you have it, a delicious homemade apple pie that's perfect for any occasion. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if you like.
